Kickboxing and teeth don’t always mix.

The kickboxer’s dental plan

A Kickboxer’s teeth can take a beating if they aren’t protected.  Even the best mouth guard is tested when your opponent connects with a shin to your favorite set of teeth.  Broken-tooth

…and that’s a nice picture.  It doesn’t take long on Google to find much, much worse but I wanted to spare you, my faithful readers.

No matter what the situation, a broken tooth calls for a visit to an Urgent Dental clinic.  There, at least a Dental Professional will give you a once over and help ease the pain a bit.  There’s not many things as painful as a broken tooth except maybe two broken teeth.

If you’re in an unfamiliar location – traveling or visiting the in laws in Atlanta for example – you should be able to find a decent 24 Hour dental clinic that can help.  If not, I would recommend a stiff drink or three and wait for the pain to subside.  Experts don’t necessarily agree with me though.  Their recommendations look more like the following:

  • Take an over the counter pain killer such as Tylenol or Motrin and rinse your mouth with salt water.
  • If the tooth has jagged edges you can use was parrafin or even sugarless gum to keep you from cutting your tongue on it
  • Eat only soft foods that don’t require much, if any, chewing.

The dentist will treat your broken tooth depending on how severe the damage is.  It could be covered up, or it might have to be extracted.

For a bit more information, there is a very good Q&A on StackExchange, and of course there’s a good bit of information on Dental Trauma on Wikipedia.

Weight Loss

Weight Loss

A good way to lose weight is to reduce the amount of time you rest between sets when you are lifting weights. By reducing the amount of time you rest between sets, you burn more calories and in a way, you’re combining cardio and weights into one workout session.

Consider joining a weight loss support group to help you along your weight loss journey. This will surround you with people who want to help you with your goals, and give you someone to fall back on when you are tempted to break your diet. You might even make some new friends!

To help you lose weight you should increase your level of physical activity every day. It does not have to be a large increase since doing any more than you currently do will be burning extra calories as well as building up muscle. Muscle is more effective at burning calories so even a minimum weight loss is a good start.

A good way to lose weight is to start keeping a daily journal of the food you eat. By keeping a journal of the food you eat, you’ll be more inclined to stick with your diet and you can keep track of what foods you like and which ones you don’t like.

One of the most important factors in successful weight loss is daily exercise, yet it’s also the one of the hardest things for people to maintain. But, it doesn’t have to be so difficult! All you need is just 30 minutes a day of cardiovascular activity to start you on the right track. You can even break it up into two 15 minute sessions.

A good way to lose weight is to always eat a well-balanced breakfast. It’s no secret that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. After eating a quality breakfast, you’ll have more energy to perform that workout later in the day. You should never skip breakfast.

One of the quickest ways to lose weight is to swap out the sugary soft drinks for something else. Sugary, carbonated beverages are comprised of nothing but empty calories in the diet and have been a major contributor to obesity in recent years. Switching to noncarbonated drinks, homemade lemonade (where you control the sugar) or juices diluted 50/50 with water, will cut the calories and make your weight-loss journey that much easier.

If you are working at weight loss but still want to enjoy the occasional treat, try this clever trade-off. Each time you decide you are going to allow yourself some higher-calorie goodies, make yourself do 30 pushups or sit-ups first. Or, go for a 15 minute walk. The added calories you burn will help to offset the extra food you are about to eat. If its too much work, just leave the junk food where it is!

A great way to lose weight is to make sure you get at least eight hours of sleep every day. Your body releases hormones as you sleep, and if you cut your sleep short, you aren’t getting the full benefit the a full night’s rest provides. Getting enough sleep is very important.
